Well, you know – you are not alone: it is estimated that more than 2 billion cups of coffee are drunk worldwide EVERY day.
Yet, not many people know that the coffee tastes best from 4 hours to 24 hours after roasting and it loses it’s flavor gradually. First, the aroma reduces and overall cup quality will lower after a week. In other words, the coffee is FRESH within a week of roasting, if it is stored properly.
As lighter the roast is, the faster the coffee will loose it’s flavor (within days). Darker roasted coffee will stay fresh for two – three weeks.
Nevertheless, the coffee should be ground when needed, as ground coffee tend to lose very quickly its subtle flavors and aromas when it’s left exposed to the atmosphere.
